Candy Land is one of the top selling children’s board games of all time selling an average of one million units per year. The game, which invites players to explore a peppermint stick forest, a peanut brittle house, a molasses swamp, and a gumdrop mountain, was designed to foster imagination and individual play, rather than encourage competition.
“It’s Slinky, it’s Slinky, it’s fun for a girl or a boy.” Those are the famous closing words of the 1962 television commercial jingle for the beloved American toy, Slinky. As a child, making a Slinky step perfectly from the top of the stairs to the bottom was an accomplishment worth celebrating. The toy has stood the test of time and not just in the hands of children. The Slinky technology has been used in the Vietnam War as a mobile radio antenna and to test zero-gravity physics at NASA.
Last May, a three-year-old boy fell into the gorilla enclosure at the Cincinnati Zoo and was picked up by Harambe, a rare, endangered silverback gorilla. Out of fear for the boy’s life, zoo officials made the tough call to kill Harambe.
